Processing and Conditioning of Bamboo Plants

All bamboo canes supplied by BS Bamboo are grown and harvested to our specifications by carefully vetted suppliers in China and Africa.

Full details of our product range can be found by viewing our online catalogue.

Each container load of bamboo we import goes through the same process:

  1. Cutting: The branches of the bamboo plant are cut to make the canes required.

  2. Washing: These are then washed with a water and sand solution until clean.

  3. Drying: The cleaned canes are then left outside until they have dried to a yellow colour and the moisture is below 18degreees.

  4. Straightening: Heat is applied to the canes to straighten them as much as is possible.

  5. Selecting: The required diameters of cane are selected from the crop and are cut to the required lengths.

  6. Bundling: The canes are then bundled with split bamboo skin into the required bale size and wrapped in a white Hessian material.

  7. Fumigating: Once the canes have been loaded onto the container, it is fumigated to prevent disease and is loaded onto the vessel for shipment to us in the UK.

BS-Bamboo makes every effort to ensure a consistant product is delivered to customers but bamboo is a natural occurring  product and as such some variations are inevitable. Please contact us if you any questions.
