Harvesting Bamboo

  1. Cutting: The branches of the bamboo plant are cut to make the canes required.

  2. Washing: These are then washed with a water and sand solution until clean.

  3. Drying: The cleaned canes are then left outside until they have dried to a yellow colour and the moisture is below 18degreees.

  4. Straightening: Heat is applied to the canes to straighten them as much as is possible.

  5. Selecting: The required diameters of cane are selected from the crop and are cut to the required lengths.

  6. Bundling: The canes are then bundled with split bamboo skin into the required bale size and wrapped in a white Hessian material.

  7. Fumigating: Once the canes have been loaded onto the container, it is fumigated to prevent disease and is loaded onto the vessel for shipment to us in the UK.
